How is the process of getting tattooed

Updated: Sep 20

If you are thinking about getting your tattoos, but are unfamiliar with the process, the thought might meet you with anticipation. Fear of the unknown can sometimes hold us back from doing things we want to do. You might be concerned that it will hurt too much. You might be worried that you wouldn't know if the artist was doing something wrong. The best thing you can do is educate yourself on the process of tattoo application; that way, you will be prepared and know what to expect when you sit in the artist's chair. So, how is a tattoo applied to the skin? From start to finish, this article will tell you exactly how human skin is transformed into a beautiful work of art.

Apz, a skilled tattoo artist, is intently focused while tattooing a detailed design on a client’s chest. His tattoo machine glides over the skin, bringing the intricate artwork to life as the client lies still, allowing Apz to work with precision and care.

01

Ideas

It's good to have a concept or meaning. In your gallery create a folder with some photos, screenshots, or tattoo references. If you don't know what you want tattooed but Apz' aesthetic aligns with your own, let us know

Apz, a tattoo artist, is helping a client choose the best spot for a wolf tattoo by measuring and positioning a stencil on the client's body. He carefully examines the area to ensure the stencil aligns perfectly with the body’s contours, ensuring the design will fit and flow naturally

02

Pick Your Tattoo Placement

The placement of your tattoo is up to you, you might want to stick with an area of the body that may be less painful to tattoo, like the forearm, and save the torso for when you're more accustomed to the sensation and aware of your own pain tolerance. You might also want to avoid placement on your hands and feet since tattoos on these areas tend to fade faster and require more touch-ups.

03 Fill out the consultation form

Once you have collected ideas and placement, you will be required to fill out a form, you may also be asked for your address and phone number, so your artist can contact you in the future if need be.

A person with intricately tattooed hands is typing on a laptop keyboard, filling out a form to confirm a tattoo appointment with Apz. The laptop screen shows the booking form, while the person's hands, covered in detailed tattoos, are visible and in focus.

- Sleep well. - No alcohol/drugs. - Bring your favorite snacks and caramels, drinks with sugar. - Small portions of food to eat during the brakes - Extra white color clothes without logos to take some pictures after the tattoo. - For a better experience bring a book to read, or a device and headphones to watch a movie or listen to music. Get Comfortable in the Tattoo Chair, sometimes this is in an open work area, and sometimes a private room, depending on the location of your tattoo. If you are shy and don't want others to watch, you can request a private room, but be sure you have done this in advance. Please wear dark clothes so the ink doesn't damage them.

06

Measure the size

Once you have collected ideas and placement, the tattoo artist will measure your body to print the right size.

Two people are in a tattoo shop, organizing equipment and supplies in preparation for a tattoo session. One is setting up the tattoo machine, while the other arranges ink bottles and sterilized tools on a nearby workstation, ensuring everything is ready for the procedure.

07

Be Patient While the Artist Prepares the Equipment

It is at this time that your artist will start preparing their tattoo machine. The inks will be placed in little tiny cups called ink caps, and the cartridges placed on the station. Clean, distilled water will be poured into a cup for cleaning the needles during the tattoo process and to change from one color to the next. Some butter will be placed on a clean surface for your use only.

08

Approve the design and placement

Once your design is ready and the size fits your muscles, it's time to create the transfer onto your skin. We will use an aid in making the design transfer better and darker onto your skin. When the paper is pulled away from your skin, it will leave you with a purple-ish blue likeness of your future tattoo. Once you approve of how everything looks, it needs to dry and you're ready to go.

09

Time to Hold Still

A little ointment will be placed over your transfer design for a few reasons. One is that it helps keep the transfer on longer without accidentally rubbing it off, and it also helps the needle to slide along the skin more smoothly, which is certainly going to be more comfortable to you. After the ointment is applied, it is time for the first line. If you're nervous, don't hold your breath. Take a nice, slow, deep breath and try to relax. The first minute or so will be the roughest. After that, your skin will kind of get used to it and the pain will begin to subside.

10 Breaks and lunch

After good progress it's time to take a break, preferably no more than 10 minutes, it's advisable not to bring a large portion of lunch, but a couple of small meals.

11

Admire the Finished Result

The artist may like a picture of your tattoo. so It's time to let the tattoo bleed for 20 minutes, then clean it and cooperate to get a good photo. Provably you will need white clothes with no logos for it. Taking pictures and videos can take 20 minutes, so please be patient.

12

Bandaging

Now that your tattoo is finished and clean, it needs to be treated just like a wound. A protective layer of ointment will be applied to the tattoo to prevent infection by bacteria. Then a bandage will be applied.
